They call it a gift when they bring it before the throne. Dorrek VIII, young emperor of the Skrull people, barely even bothered to pay any attention to the cloth covered box that was rolled up before the throne. These particular military leaders weren't much of ones that he cared for, and frankly while he was invested in the eventual journey to Earth and conquering it as was his lofty and prophesied fate from long since before he was born, that didn't mean he cared too much about the recon team he had sent. They annoyed him, and sending them to a planet protected by 'heroes' had been meant as a punishment.

The 'gift' to get back into his good graces didn't seem likely to amuse him in any way. There was nothing intriguing about Earth. So the Emperor had ignored their simpering and scrapping before him. It was unbecoming of a Skrull to be anything other than strong and dominating warriors. Still, he cut off their rambling dialog and waved to one of his royal guard. K'lrt, ever the devoted servant, stepped forward and whipped the cloth off.

And Dorrek considered what was presented to him with a raised eyebrow. This, of course, was not what he'd been expected. He hadn't expected a living being.

"Where did you find it?" he asked in Skrull, continuing the conversation in his native tongue.

"It attempted to attack us," one of the generals, who was kneeling out of reach of the cage spoke. "It is more than it seems. Like Skrull, but not."

Intriguing. Dorrek gestured for the clear tank on wheels (with air holes of course), to be rolled closer. Let him better see this prize.

"I can... have a shuttle prepared to send you home from here. Alone," Dorrek offers. "I should have done that long ago. I just... you're beautiful."

And since he often saw the guy alone for a bit, it was like Gar was the only person it was SAFE to think about.

Gar sighs and he moves away from the door and to Dorrek, standing close to him and looking up.

"I'm not going. I told you I still have to try to help you," he says. "And it... I'm sorry I still get angry and messed up and I blame you for things...but I can't go home."

"Then perhaps the wrong person is being tutored. Our trip will take a while. If it is alright with you, I can take over your tutoring in the Skrull language and history. And in return, you can tell me how you think I can be better."

Is that not fair?

[garrrr]

“You won’t dismiss me as naive?”

Gar can’t help but ask because he hated is so much when Dorrek did that.

“Maybe I can help you practice kissing too,” he’s rude, not sorry.

[hybrid_prince]

"Wait what?" Dorrek asks, blushing deeply. He lost the naive thing and the need to respond to that at the offer.

[garrrr]

Gar just lets the first question go for now.

“I can help you practice kissing.”

He repeats slightly more confidently the second time.

[hybrid_prince]

"That's... something you practice?" he asks, voice soft. And... and it breaks into a bit of a shocked squeak at the end.

[garrrr]

"As an excuse to kiss more? Yes," Gar lifts a shoulder and flushes a little himself.

[hybrid_prince]

"After everything, you still would want to kiss me?"

He really is confused. But he can't deny the hope in his voice.

[garrrr]

“That’s what I’ve been saying. I shouldn’t but I do,” Gar answers, taking another step closer.

[hybrid_prince]

At last Dorrek rises from the table. They can come back to the food later. For now he moves a step closer to Gar.

"Is it so wrong? You said I'm attractive. Maybe it is only that which causes that desire."

[garrrr]

“Maybe...” Gar can’t help but think he still shouldn’t want this, want Dorrek.

“Does it matter?”

[hybrid_prince]

"No," Dorrek agrees, watching Gar. "Is... there a way you would like me to look?"

Surely that is part of what makes him attractive. He can look however Gar wants him to. Perhaps that is what made him desirable?

[garrrr]

Gar frowns at the question.

"What? No...you're... you can just be you."

[hybrid_prince]

“And if I don’t know who I am? Who Theo-Vell is?”

His birth name. The one his mother had given him. Though she publicly announced him as Dorrek the eighth.

[garrrr]

“Then you need to figure it out,” Gar lifts a shoulder.

“But... I like how you look ... both ways,” Gar flushes a little at the admission. There’s something more comforting in the more human appearance just a little bit.

Dorrek looks confused and he walks forward a few steps, closing more distance between them.

“You aren’t scared of the Skrull side?”

[garrrr]

“I’m not,” Gar answers and he lifts a shoulder. “It’s just as attractive as this side of you.”

Dorrek is dangerous no matter what, he can’t exactly forget it completely

And he is strong in this form too.

“You don’t even mind I am so much bigger than you?”

[garrrr]

“I kind of might like that part too?” Gar says and lifts his shoulders. It can be scary in a lot of situations but... not always.

[hybrid_prince]

At last he stands right there, close enough to reach out and touch Gar. A temptation? Perhaps.

“You are an intriguing man, Gar of Earth.”

[garrrr]

“Just Gar, unless I should keep calling you Emperor right now,” Gar counters finally pushing back on the others choice of how to refresh to him finally.

Dorrek is right there.... so close he could touch him if he just reached out a little... his hand does after a moment, draw a light touch over the others forearm.

Most people do. But Dorrek doesn't say that. He just lets Gar's hand glide over his arm. And tries not to shiver at the touch. He is so very, very rarely touched for any purpose other than being helped into royal garb. And this has... different weight.

"Gar. Just Gar."

[garrrr]

Gar would keep calling him that around others, when things were official but this is something different isn’t it? Emperor didn’t fit this moment.

“Yeah... Dorrek,” he says lowly, tilting his head to look up at him as his hand moves up his arm, over his bicep. When he steps closer they’re almost touching more than that intentional touch on his arm.

Definitely almost touching. It's got Dorrek's heart racing. So close, with the implication that more could happen. How did he react to this? Did he start it? Did he initiate? He didn't know.

"Theo. Call me Theo."

He's never asked anyone but Sh'rah to call him that. No one else knew the name to his knowledge. No one living.
