They call it a gift when they bring it before the throne. Dorrek VIII, young emperor of the Skrull people, barely even bothered to pay any attention to the cloth covered box that was rolled up before the throne. These particular military leaders weren't much of ones that he cared for, and frankly while he was invested in the eventual journey to Earth and conquering it ~~as was his lofty and prophesied fate from long since before he was born~~, that didn't mean he cared too much about the recon team he had sent. They annoyed him, and sending them to a planet protected by 'heroes' had been meant as a punishment.

The 'gift' to get back into his good graces didn't seem likely to amuse him in any way. There was nothing intriguing about Earth. So the Emperor had ignored their simpering and scrapping before him. It was unbecoming of a Skrull to be anything other than strong and dominating warriors. Still, he cut off their rambling dialog and waved to one of his royal guard. K'lrt, ever the devoted servant, stepped forward and whipped the cloth off.

And Dorrek considered what was presented to him with a raised eyebrow. This, of course, was not what he'd been expected. He hadn't expected a living being.

"Where did you find it?" he asked in Skrull, continuing the conversation in his native tongue.

"It attempted to attack us," one of the generals, who was kneeling out of reach of the cage spoke. "It is more than it seems. Like Skrull, but not."

Intriguing. Dorrek gestured for the clear tank on wheels (with air holes of course), to be rolled closer. Let him better see this prize.

Oh Gar, sweet man, where else would a private door in the chambers of an Emperor’s consort lead but into the Emperor’s room. ~~Which of course might be some display of trust right there, giving Gar unfettered access to the Emperor.~~

As it was, he was nearly half an hour early. Which meant just in time to shock Dorrek out of what little rest he had managed. Not even half an hour that he’d been in his own room, and while there he had let himself enjoy a hot soak. At the knocking Dorrek had lifted himself from his bath and sought a towel, meaning he barely had time to grab one nearby and wrap it around his waist as Gar effectively burst in on him.

Dorrek didn’t blush this time, but he definitely seemed... momentarily flustered.

“Surely Earth holds to a policy of waiting after knocking,” he chided as he strode over time a standing set of cabinets and opening them to pull out a garment. He then dropped the towel, back to Gar, and started to pull the body suit on. Many Skrull wore the tight fitting black and purple outfits, ones that might as well be painted on for how tight they seemed at the leg and chest and arms.

“You are early.”

Look, Gar's clearly not thinking about it like that. So when he walks in and sees Dorrek wrapping a towel around himself well... He stares at Dorrek for a long moment and he's flushing but he stares instead of looking away.

He probably should have looked away when the towel dropped and the other had his back to him but -- nope.

"Sorry," Gar offers but it's not the most sincere apology ever, biting his lip briefly and yeah he's watching the other get dressed but it's not like Dorrek had told him to look away or come back in a minute...

"I lost track of time and I thought I was late..."

Well, it shouldn't need SAID that you close your eyes or turn away. But Gar definitely gets a view. Dorrek is broad and tightly muscled and the man's body can't be denied to be a spectacle all its own. Worth the price of admission? Probably not. But it's something.

"Well, you are early. As you can see, there is no food here yet. I expect it shortly."

He finishes pulling on the clothes and they pull together into a seamless outfit. One that hugs him in all the lovely places, but doesn't cover his arms unlike other Skrull. The bulk of his hard shoulder plates, unique to him, don't really allow it.

"Come, sit."

He gestures to a couch as he grabs up a towel and starts drying his hair.

Gar would say worth it... He's still a teenager with raging hormones and Dorrek had been kind even if he'd been a captor and something had been there for a while and it was hard to look away given the chance at a peek of what was underneath. But he has enough shame to try and not be obvious about it so he's looking down by the time the other is turning around.

"Are you sure? I could leave?" he offers, but glances over the other again and maybe the previous conversation about the other's preferences is kind of heavier on his mind now. It just all sort of ran together.

"I was the one that invited you to dine with me," Dorrek counters. "And while we are in transit, I do not have any members of the court and military that I have to eat with. And, technically, if we are going to consider you a visiting dignitary or the eyes and voice of your people, you have a right to sit at the Emperor's table."

Technically Gar's newly defined position, the one Gar had chosen by agreeing to come on this trip with Dorrek, meant he had a lot more freedom in movement, and a pretty serious right to enter to Emperor's presence of his own accord provided Dorrek wasn't working with classified intelligence.

Gar looks down again after briefly looking at the emperor and all that sounds so ... fancy. He doesn't belong here at all. And he still hasn't stopped feeling like a captive.

"I'm like super not qualified for any of this."

Give it time, Gar. Give it time and maybe you will feel more welcome.

"Be that as it may, you are the person at hand. Besides, few are ever truly ready for the position to be thrust upon them."

Gar shrugs a little and then moves to sit on the couch the other had indicated a few moments before. He's still not quite looking directly at Dorrek because every time he does he's thinking about him naked and their conversation definitely did not need him thinking about that -- cause he was making everything pervy in his head.

"Maybe not."

If it helps, Dorrek is definitely draping a nice crimson wrap around himself before he moves to sit near, but not next to, Gar.

"I thank you, Gar of Earth, for coming with us. I do not think you will be convincing me to leave Earth alone, but I respect your attempts to do so."

It only helps like 1%.

"I haven't even been trying to convince you to leave Earth alone. I've been trying to get you to try working with humans first."

Now Gar, it's not like you can imagine unwrapping Dorrek before peeling him free from his clothes.

"Humans aren't exactly the sort to negotiate."

Oh never.

“The point is giving people a chance because they can and will surprise you.”

And hey, Dorrek looks good in green and Gar has to appreciate that.

"They could surprise us with violence," Dorrek points out. "I want to minimize death."

Gar appreciates a lot of things about Dorrek that he definitely should not.

“It’s worth the risk.”

Just wait until he sees the Kree form. A golden heart throb prince.

"Is it? Do you really feel it is worth the cost of lives if you are wrong?"

It’s all heart throb and Gar is the weakest ever for falling for it.

“It is.”

Gar won’t be convinced that trying isn’t worth it.

"It will be your people dying," Dorrek reminds him.

His estimation of human heroes is small.

“Maybe, but it will be their choice,” Gar counters and maybe Dorrek will never understand how important that is.

"Isn't life worth preserving?"

Strange that the emperor of a warrior people felt that way.

Gar sighs a bit because it’s an oversimplification.

“The quality of life is important. The freedom of choice is important. There’s being alive and then there’s living. What you want to do without trying to work with humans first takes away more important things.”

"And what, pray-tell, are those things that are important and lost?"

Explain things. Educate him.

“Do we really have to do this again? You’ll just tell me I’m naive and pretty and then not talk to me for weeks.”

Gar snaps because he’s kind of tired of being called naive.

"First, no. I was asking to know. Second, I'm an emperor, and my life has been busy. I have barely had time to sleep in the last three weeks," Dorrek says. And while he starts soft, he snaps by the end.

Gar very obviously rolls his eyes at Dorrek then.

“If you don’t give humans a chance then you’re no better than the ones you criticize and there will be bloodshed anyway because take away choice and people won’t just accept it not from you.”

Gar knows he should feel a bit guilty but he doesn’t. Not really. Why should he feel guilty?

“You still insulted me and then just didn’t talk to me until you dropped a huge choice on me last minute.”

And he’d made the choice quickly but that’s only because an hour wouldn’t have been able to make much a difference.

"You said that I would be taking things away from them. What things? Make a list. Tell me what you think we would take!"

Dammit he's getting annoyed. This human is so frustrating.

"This whole trip is last minute," he continues, standing.
